Virginia Governor Places New Restrictions on Social Gatherings

In a Monday afternoon press conference, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam stopped short of a stay at home order, but instituted new restrictions on social gatherings including the closure of most non-essential businesses.

The Governor officially banned all gatherings of more than 10 people, in accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control.  He said “all recreation and entertainment services must close” which includes most non-essential businesses. Close contact industries like salons, barber shops, spas and entertainment venues have been ordered closed for 30 days. Essential businesses such as pharmacies, grocery stores and banks will remain open.

Governor Northam also announced all public schools in Virginia will remain closed for the remainder of the academic year.
