The Talbot County Council voted on Tuesday evening to keep the Talbot Boys confederate monument in place in front of the Talbot County Courthouse in Downtown Easton.
The 3-2 vote came after months of campaigning by community and civil rights activists to bring the statue down.
In place since the early twentieth century, the statue features the names of Confederate soldiers.
Demonstrators have been calling for the statue’s removal off and on for decades with a renewed push following the death of George Floyd and the nationwide demonstrations that followed.
The calls for its removal were amplified after the Wicomico County Government removed a placard honoring former Confederate General John Winder outside of the Wicomico County Courthouse in June.
