Special Event Zone in Effect in Ocean City as “Pop-up Car Rally” Roars Into Town

The Ocean City Police Department has impleneted a Special Event Zone as an unsanctioned pop-up car rally comes to town over the weekend.

Officials say speed limits have been decreased and violation fines have been increased from Tuesday, September 22 through Sunday, September 27.

Law enforcement will be conducting additional patrols from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge all the way to Ocean City. Ocean City Police will be assisted by Maryland State Police, the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, the Maryland Transportation Authority, Maryland Natural Resources Police, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office.

Spectators are urged to keep the sidewalks clear and should not “incite the spinning of wheels or ‘burn-outs’ by motorists.” Officers stress those that incite motorists could face violations.
