Seaford, De. (DELMARVA NEWS NOW) — The Seaford Police Department has wrapped a two month long public safety effort called “Operation Cool Down,” using non-traditional methods to thwart distracted driving.
Police utilized plain-clothed officers, unmarked family-style sedans, dump trucks and utility vehicles to observe violations. Among those violations were 114 cell phone usage violations, 89 traffic citations, 41 seatbelt violations, the apprehension of 2 wanted persons, 2 child restraint violations, 2 drug arrests and 1 speeding citation.
Seaford Police worked with the Delaware Office of Highway Safety to conduct the operation. Officials say the effort was in response to over 80 calls for service involving distracted driving complaints over a three month span.
