Former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has announced he’s picking Senator Kamala Harris as his vice presidential running mate.
Senator Harris makes history as the first African-American female on a U.S. presidential ticket.
Senator Harris competed with Biden for the 2020 Democratic nomination. She has served as a U.S. Senator since 2017 and was previously California’s Attorney General.
In a statement, Former Vice President Biden said I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked Kamala Harris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate.”
He continued “Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau. I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.”
The Democratic National Convention will take place next week.
