Delaware State Police: Don’t Leave Your Car Running & Unattended

DELAWARE (Delmarva News Now) — Delaware State Police are urging the public to refrain from leaving their cars unattended while idling.

State Police say numerous cars have been broken into in the Kent County area in recent weeks, many of which were left unattended, idling and unlocked at places like gas stations.. Troopers say other vehicle thefts were from car dealerships and rental car businesses after hours.

Troopers say frequently a victim leaves their car running in a parking lot while they go into the store for a quick purchase. Delaware law prohibits a motorist from leaving a car unattended without first stopping the engine.

The suspects in the rash of car thefts are described only as juvenile males. Anyone with information on those incidents is asked to contact Delaware State Police at (302) 698-8444 or (302) 698-8527. Delaware Crime Stoppers is also taking tips, which can be provided at 1-800-TIP-3333 or at delaware.crimestoppersweb.com
